   In The Wayward Bus, by John Steinbeck, occurs: ‘Louie was big, a little on the stout side, but a dresser. His party friends called him “meat-face”,’ ‘Meat-ball’ and ‘meathead’ are slightly more usual American slang terms. Both refer to a stupid person, which is perhaps not the intention behind ‘meatface’. Steinbeck’s comment is an interesting aside on the friendly insult that occurs regularly between friends and intimates.
